A Woodbridge police officer was injured early Friday morning when a woman kicked him in the face while resisting arrest, police said.

Officers driving in a patrol car on Oakwood Avenue were stopped by a pedestrian in front of Chris Michael's Steak House at about 2:15 a.m. Friday. The man said two women were refusing to leave his vehicle.

The two officers asked the women to leave, but one, 22-year-old Kimberly S. Pineiro of Union, refused, authorities said. Police said they smelled a strong odor of alcohol on Pineiro's breath. Eventually, she got out, screaming and cursing at the officers and at restaurant patrons before spitting in the face of the restaurant's owner, police said.

Police placed her under arrest, but Pineiro began flailing her arms and legs, striking an officer in the cheek. Pineiro was charged with aggravated assault and resisting arrest. Bail was set at $20,000 without the option of posting 10 percent.
