UPDATE: Debra Reinhart is today’s featured Woodbridge school board candidate

Debra Reinhart
The following is information the candidate provided to the Woodbridge Parent Teacher Organization Presidents' Council. You can read this Woodbridge InJersey article to see how Reinhart responded to questions asked at a recent forum.
At the end of the post, you can leave any questions you'd like Ms. Reinhart to answer and we'll do our best to see that he gets them.
In her own words: Many people have been asking my why I am running for the Board of Education. The answer is simple. I am running for my kids. I have two children in School No. 14, a child in Fords Middle School, two children at Woodbridge High School and one child in college. That's right, I am the mother of six.
It sickens and angers me that my older children have received a better education than my younger ones will. We should be going forward, not backwards. This trend is unacceptable and I would like to see it reversed.
I have come up with many fund-raising ideas that would not nly help cover the budget deficit, but would move Woodbridge toward being self-sufficient. In doing so, it would also help ease the tax burden on home owners and relieve some of the stress of relying on the state for funding.
When I approached the superintendent with these ideas I was told that he did not want to cover the budget because then next year the state will say we don't need it. My reply was, 'Give me an application, I'll run for the board and make you listen to me." So, I'm running.
The reality of the situation is that the state us broke. There will be no funding next year and why should we even believe that the school board will get the money next year when they haven't been able to get it in the last 20 years? That's right. For the last 20 years they say we have been shortchanged by the state and if you ask me, it's their fault. There is so much inbreeding on the Boar of Education now that I'm surprised that anything can get done.
The Office of the Superintendent has the biggest bulk of the administrative budget and that's where the cuts should start. The board can't vote on issues such as this, however, because many members of the board have relatives somewhere in there so they have to abstain from voting. At the very least, citizens running for the school board should be required to have no CONFLICTS OF INTEREST such as a relative sitting in the superintendent's office.
I think there could ne no better choice than me for the Board of Education. I was raised military and the military philosophy is, if you have a job to do, you shut up and do the job. I would like a chance to do the job. Vote Tuesday, April 20, Line 4/ Thank you for your support. Big changes start with little steps.

Ms. Reinhart,
Please share with the readers what sort of education and experience you have that qualifies you to oversee the operations of an organization that employees 2,000+ people and operates with a yearly budget of $182,000,000. Have you ever been the member of the board of directors at any private corporation that employed 2,000 people and had a yearly budget of $182,000,000?

No offense to you, as your comments are thoughtful and perceptive; but-quite honestly, I would rather let “inexperienced” regular folks have a shot…you know, people who fret over an extra $100 bill to pay this month. I see it this way: On EVERY level (local/state/national), we’ve elected so-called “professionals”; you don’t need to be a political science major or genius to know that hasn’t worked out that well.
Further, I would restrict ALL elected positions, paid OR unpaid, to persons not receiving a taxpayer-funded paycheck or pension, as well as anyone who has relatives in similar situations. I know John Golden-he’s a good man-but, when (a) he’s on the township payroll, and (b) has relatives working for the district, any votes, decisions, or opinions he makes are going to suggest a conflict of interest, regardless of the circumstances.

Inexperienced people aren’t the only people fretting over their bills. Asking for inexperienced, regular folks to run our BOE isn’t much different than asking for inexperienced, regular folk to teach our children, fight fires, and provide EMT services.
I do agree with you on the conflict issue.

With a budget of $184 million do you really want to let inexperienced people run things! That’s how we got to where we are today . . . let’s get some people on the board with business experience – who know how to run a “for profit business”

Why don’t you all tell me what the experienced police officers, firemen, prison workers have done for the Bd of Ed budget over the past 20 years. The WTEA won’t open the budget to Trenton. Why? What have they got to hide? Moms working in Home Depot, Burger King or white collar jobs to provide for their kids have a better eye on budgets than these folks have had for years. Any machine that is backing home wreckers and pension padders is looking out for number one and not for the true needs of the 18K+ students of Woodbridge. Show me a Mom that buys new sporting equipment in lieu of dinner. Show me a Mom that is built a family unit where the older kids look out for the younger ones and there’ll also be a fiscally responsible family for generations to come. Do you want to challenge the management of $182,000,000 by one person? Tell me what the Superintendents have done for the Township over the past 20 years. Ms. Reinhardt will not be managing this alone. She’ll have the support of every Mom with kids in the Woodbridge Township School District along the way.
