Illegal fireworks will be met with ‘zero tolerance’ crack down in Woodbridge
WOODBRIDGE, NJ -- There will be "zero tolerance" this year and the police department will respond to complaints of illegal fireworks, township spokesman John Hagerty told the Home News Tribune for an article about N.J. State Police cracking down on the Independence Day tradition.
Last year three Woodbridge residents were charged with possession of illegal fireworks, and police confiscated about $3,000 worth of fireworks in the Fords and Port Reading sections of the township.
In recent years the State Police have confiscated between 500 and 1,000 cases of illegal fireworks, or approximately six to eight tons of illegal explosives.
But that doesn't seem to be deterring state residents from crossing the border to Pennsylvania, where one shopper from Union County told reporter Rick Malwitz he felt "like a kid in the candy store."

Thank goodness the troopers are out there cracking down on these criminals who blow off fireworks. It is good to know all the gangbangers and robbers and rapists and burglars and killers are running around unchecked while the state police go after the 13 year old with a sparkler! WTF is wrong with this picture?
And isn’t John Hagerty the state police spokesman, not the township spokesman? Please tell me he didn’t retire from the state police and is now on the township payroll!

Hagerty left the State Police for the Attorney General’s Office in 2002 and came to Woodbridge in 2006.
