WOODBRIDGE, NJ -- A cast of teenagers, college students – and Mayor John E. McCormac – will take to the stage this week in the musical “Grease.”

The show, premiering 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Hungarian American Club in Port Reading, is the third show in as many years by the Woodbridge Community Youth Players.

“Everybody loves ‘Grease.’ It’s a fun show,” said director Ricki Cohn, who founded the WCYP with musical director and fellow Woodbridge High School teacher Beth Amory.

The non-profit WCYP gives high school students and young adults who are serious about the theater an opportunity to perform on stage.

The size of the cast this year doubled to 33 and the production was moved from the Oak Ridge Heights School No. 21 in Colonia to the larger Hungarian American Club, Cohn said. Most of the performances of last year’s “Godspell” and "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown” in 2008 were sold out.

For the third year in a row, McCormac will play a part on stage. This year he’s “Principal McCormac” of Rydell High School. Last year he played the voice of God. Other cast members range in age from 14 to 24.

Cohn says the musical will “appeal to wide group of people.”

Tickets, which can be bought at the door or by calling Cohn at 732-233-2192, or the Municipal Building at 732-634-4500 ext. 6058, are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under in advance, and $12 and $8 at the door.

Other performances will be 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

The Hungarian American Club is at 95 Port Reading Ave., Port Reading.
