GPS, loose change in Woodbridge vehicles invite thieves

WOODBRIDGE, NJ -- Someone stole a GPS unit early Monday morning from an unlocked car parked in a driveway on Thomas Street, police said.

The 43-year-old victim told police the unit was taken between midnight and 4 a.m. The Magellan Maestro GPS, worth $350, had been in the center console, police said.

The victim also reported that someone had taken loose change from the vehicle about three weeks earlier. He did not report that incident to police.

A burglar early this week stole a GPS unit and $10 in loose change from a car parked outside a Rowland Place home, police said.

The victim, 47, told police she may have left her 2004 Hyundai Sonata unlocked, allowing someone to get inside between 5 p.m. Sunday and 10 p.m. Monday. Police found no signs of forced entry.

The Garmin GPS unit is worth about $200. Also taken were two brown pillow cases, police said.

Thief grabs $30 in change

A township man found some $30 in change missing Monday morning after someone burglarized his pickup truck, police said.

The victim, 63, told police he parked his 2002 Chevrolet S10 outside his Francis Avenue home at about 6 p.m. Sunday.

When he returned to the truck at 6:40 a.m. Monday, he found the interior ransacked and change missing from the center console.

Police found no physical damage to the doors or windows.
