Tom Maras: Council did not follow will of people on first aid squad vote
EDITOR'S NOTE: Tom Maras is a resident of Fords. We welcome your comments.

Oh what a Night!
Those who were at last night’s Woodbridge Town Council meeting, which was heavily attended by residents of Avenel and other parts of the township, saw and heard voters fighting to hold their town government accountable to the "will of the people."
The ladies and gentlemen who spoke did so from the heart, in a clear, straightforward manner about the Avenel-Colonia First Aid Squad closing. Their points and comments were insightful and clearly called into question what the McCormac Council and Administration are really doing by putting the ACFAS out of business.
To the absolute shame of the town council, save Councilman Luban, who is recovering from major surgery and Councilman Bedard, who voted NO on the ordinance that will take the ACFAS off the district map, the council voted on the Second Reading of Ordinance. While the public was allowed to speak on four other Second Reading Ordinances, they were flatly denied that right, until after the council took their vote on the First Aid District Map! What transpired when the public was finally allowed to speak showed, in no uncertain terms, how out of touch the Mayor, his Council and his Administration are with the desires of their constituency.
One could liken what went on at the meeting to the following:
Squire McCormac (who rarely appears at any location where he can be openly questioned), had his loyal sheep herders (the town council) work with the imported sheep dogs (oh, just guess who in the Administration) to keep the flock (the residents of Woodbridge) under control. To the amazement and horror of the sheep dogs and the herders, the flock united and refused to go quietly to the sheering! How dare the sheep bah at those who know what is best for the flock! Remember, the flock is here for the sheering, (check your next tax bill), not to tell the Squire we are unhappy with our feed.
No, the aforementioned is not funny; it is sad and disturbing. Unfortunately, we will have to wait until this November to change things on a state and Middlesex County level. After that, we are stuck in the Squire’s control until November 2011. At that point in time, the flock can show the Squire and his obedient serfs, the sheep are no longer willing to be shorn.
PLEASE! Remember, united, we “the people” rule! Divided they control our safety, our lives and our money!
What do you want for you, and if applicable, your children and beyond?
Please, speak out. Moreover, send a clear signal. Change your party. You can always go back. The beauty of our electoral system, in this great nation, is our ability to change party and to vote by secret ballot!
This sheep not only says bah, it says nah to this style of local government!
God Bless America!
