Mac, Cheese and Apple Pie!

Has Woodbridge Township’s own version of the big, red McIntosh apple, commonly referred to as “Mac”, taken to giving away apple pies and cheese to seniors? Well if Mac’s appearance (invited or uninvited guess?) at the AARP meeting on Wednesday, November 3, in Avenel is any indication, he has.

Reportedly, Mayor John E. McCormac was dolling out apple pie and cheese to the AARP attendees, along with more of his blarney about the Avenel-Colonia First Aid Squad. Perhaps, Mac thinks seniors can be won over with a piece of pie and a slice of cheese. From what some are saying, the pie and cheese were easy and pleasant to swallow, the blarney was not.

It is important for everyone to remember, especially a posturing politician, seniors are among the most read and well informed residents in a community. Certainly, when it comes to issues involving their health and safety, like the loss of their St. John’s, and now their Avenel-Colonia First Aid Squad, owing to politicians’ agenda (Mac and his loyal council members), seniors’ get downright absorbed in the issue.

Apparently, those politicians think shutting down these beloved, trusted and needed squads can be justified with accusations of wrong doing or slow response times to emergency calls. It must be noted that while certain of the ACFAS members have been accused of misconduct, not one of those members has yet to found guilty of a crime in any court of law.

Moreover, the Mac administration has failed to provide any evidence to support its contention that either St. John’s or the ACFAS were responsible for causing any harm to or death of anyone, owing to their respective response times to emergency calls. Additionally, the members that have been accused agreed to resign from the squad.

Unfortunately, that is not good enough for the Mac. He wants to have ‘his team’ of hospital heads pick the new Board of the ACFAS. That Board must consist of individuals that never disagree with Mac. So much for independent first aid squads!

While it is uncertain where Mac will go next with his sweet as apple pie campaign to convenience the residents of our township the squads needed to be closed, for our safety, one can be sure there will be plenty of blarney to go with whatever else he is serving to win voter support.
