Sneak peek: AMC Dine-In Theatre at Menlo Park Mall

In the Fork & Screen auditoriums of AMC's Dine-In Theatres in Bridgewater Commons and Menlo Park Mall, seats face dining countertops, where wait service is summoned by pushing a button.
EDISON, NJ -- Forget the pop corn and soda. These movies come with restaurant cuisine and cocktails.
Will AMC's Dine-In Theatres be a box office smash or a recipe for disaster? The Home News Tribune's food columnist Lois Heyman tells us about the theater-restaurant that opened at the AMC at Bridgewater Commons and will open down the road at Menlo Park Mall in Edison.
This is definitely not the moviegoing experience most Central Jerseyans are used to, starting with the way you buy your ticket: reserved seats only, purchased either online or from automated kiosks at the entrance.
With your seat location assured, you might want to linger in the lobby until right before the movie starts, hanging out at MacGuffins, the full-service bar and lounge area named after director Alfred Hitchcock's term for a useful plot device. Think mini-Las Vegas-casino style, with bar stools grouped around high tables and club chair groupings.
The Menlo Dine-In will be "upscale."
In the Cinema Suites, guests can stretch out in luxury recliners with individual swivel tables and up to nine feet of row spacing.
The food appears to be a better deal than a concession-stand combo.
In addition to the same food and drink selections in Fork & Screen, guests in Cinema Suites can choose Cajun-spiced blackened salmon ($12.99), lobster ravioli in tomato and roasted red pepper sauce ($17.99), tenderloin steak tips smothered in mushrooms, onions and a red wine demi-glace, served with red bliss mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables ($16.49); calamari fritti with marinara ($8.99), and house-made blue cheese chips topped with bacon and blue cheese crumbles ($8.49).
The extra cost is $10-15, which goes toward your meal bill.
