Fords Raceway station robbed at knife point
WOODBRIDGE, NJ -- A bandit brandishing a large knife made off with hundreds of dollars in cash Saturday after robbing a gas station in the township's Fords section, police said.
The attendant at the Raceway station at 1 Lafayette Road near Ford Avenue told police the man entered the convenience store around 5:20 p.m. and asked for a gas can. When the employee said they had none in stock, the man became angry and left.
The man returned a short time later and approached the attendant's booth, wielding what was described as a large kitchen knife, Capt. Roy Hoppock said. He demanded cash and was given $500 to $700 before fleeing on foot.
The attendant and a customer chased him but stopped when the robber turned around and threatened to attack them, Hoppock said.
