Woodbridge crime: Jewel thief in Colonia; auto thefts elsewhere

WOODBRIDGE, NJ -- Two Colonia residents returned home last Sunday to find an unknown amount of jewelry missing, police said.

The victims, ages 31 and 28, arrived at the Chain O’ Hills Road home at 6:30 p.m. to find the footprints leading to a front door that had been kicked open, they told police. They found that an intruder had ransacked two of their bedrooms before stealing the jewels.

The owners had been gone since 7:30 a.m. Saturday, police said.

GPS stolen from minivan in Iselin

Someone stole an in-dash monitor and a GPS unit from a minivan in a burglary last week outside a Cheryl Drive home in Iselin, police said.

The owner noticed the monitor was missing around 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, when he put the 2009 Chrysler Town & Country in reverse and found that his rear-view camera did not turn on, he told police. He then found the $200 GPS unit and an iPhone charger missing from his center console.

The burglary occurred some time after 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 6.

Accord stolen from mall

A shopper left Woodbridge Center mall on Saturday to find her 2000 Honda Accord stolen, police said.

The 45-year-old victim reported that the car was stolen between 4 and 5 p.m. Police said the Honda, which is worth about $10,000, had three winter coats and several bags of groceries inside.

Contractor's SUV stolen

A sport utility vehicle belonging to a painting contractor was stolen last week from outside a building on Regency Place, police said.

The owner, a 48-year-old Virginia man, told police his 2000 Jeep Cherokee was taken between 5 p.m. Jan. 7 and 11 a.m. Jan 8. Inside the SUV was $100 in cash, $50 worth of painting tarps and an $80 ladder.
