Woodbridge issues snow storm advisory for street parking
WOODBRIDGE, NJ -- The township has issued a winter weather storm advisory for tonight and this weekend.
Friday recycling pick-up will go on as scheduled.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather storm advisory for Thursday, beginning at 9:00 P.M. through 3:00 P.M. on Friday, Jan 21. The National Weather Service is calling for a 3 to 6 inch accumulation of snow, with heaviest accumulation predicted from 4:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. on Friday. Extreme cold temperatures are predicted for Saturday Jan. 22 through Monday, Jan 24. Area residents are encouraged to remain indoors and to wear appropriate clothing if venturing outside.
The Woodbridge Office of Emergency Management reminds residents and business owners that vehicles must be removed from streets designated as Snow Emergency Routes in order to keep the streets open for plowing and snow removal operations over the next 24-36 hours.
Parking prohibitions will remain in effect until the street has been plowed and on-street parking will not interfere with snow removal operations and/or the normal flow of traffic. To assist plowing and snow removal efforts throughout the Township, residents are encouraged to park vehicles in driveways and off streets wherever possible. Residents are reminded to not push snow into plowed streets.
Please assist emergency crews by uncovering fire hydrants that may be located on or near residential property.
The Office of Emergency Management and the Department of Public Works closely monitors weather conditions and is at the ready to begin plowing, salting, and appropriate public safety operations should the predicted winter storm result in accumulated snow or ice.
Township Public Works crews have been pre-scheduled to conduct around-the-clock plowing and salting operations for the upcoming 24-36 hours as needed and will concentrate plowing and salting operations on primary roadways, main streets and highways, hill areas, and heavily traveled thoroughfares throughout the Township. Plowing and salting operations along secondary roadways and residential streets will be conducted depending on storm conditions and as crews become available. Woodbridge Township plow operations do not include state and county highways.
Township businesses and property owners are reminded to keep sidewalks, driveways and public thoroughfares free of snow and ice. Township ordinance requires property owners to maintain clear pedestrian walkways and sidewalks by removing accumulated snow and ice from sidewalk areas within 24 hours after the end of the storm.
Woodbridge Township residents should tune to local TV news and weather reports, TV-35, or log-on to the Township Web Page at: http://www.twp.woodbridge.nj.us for weather information or specific storm-related announcements. For additional information residents can contact the Department Public Works at 732-7381311 x3600.
