Animals in Woodbridge, Part 2: Praise for our township shelter
WOODBRIDGE, NJ -- People looking to adopt cats can find plenty at either the Woodbridge Animal Shelter in Sewaren or at Angel Paws in Colonia.
The difference: as a municipal shelter, Woodbridge has to euthanize animals if its cages reach capacity, whereas Angel Paws animals can live out their lives in the cozy building. (Of course, the goal is to adopt them to their own homes.)
The law notwithstanding, the township animal shelter is not devoid of compassion.
Debra Wevers, an organizer for Angel Paws, wrote on MyCentralJersey.com that she was impressed with the facility and its volunteers:
It was also obvious that the volunteers really care about the cats and I saw many of them giving individual attention to the cats and the cats loved it...
It is always heartbreaking to see any animal in a cage but the dog cages were also clean, there was natural light and the dogs looked to be in good health...
I was pleased to learn that they try to follow the no kill philosophy as much as they possibly can. They make every effort to only euthanize those animals that are either too ill to be helped or that are just too vicious to rehabilitate...
