The community, which is evident along Oak Tree Road and Green Street in the Iselin section of Woodbridge, now represents 12.9 percent of the county, up from 7.3 percent 10 years ago.
Anil Bansal, co-founder and co-chairman of IA Bancorp, which opened Indus American Bank in Iselin in December of 2005, said the bank’s growth has mirrored the growth of the Asian Indian community.
“In five years the bank has grown to $220 million in assets, much faster than many other banks in the community,” Bansal said. “Where other banks have shrunk, we have grown.”
“India — culturally as well as politically — has very strong ties with the U.S. and people coming from there are used to the democracy the way we have it,” said Bansal. “It is a very similar business environment in that entrepreneurship is very high in both the countries. So, this is a tremendous comfort to the Asian Indian community.
