10 streets in Woodbridge get cars burglarized Monday; Edison arrests teen suspect
WOODBRIDGE, NJ — Edison police arrested a teenager, and chased after another, whom Woodbridge police believe might have been involved in a series of car break-ins in the Fords section of the township on Monday.
The arrest was made on a night Woodbridge saw break-ins to cars on 10 streets across the township, police said, although the sole suspect has not been tied to any of the break-ins.
Edison police were dispatched to the city line near Fords at about 2:30 a.m. after Woodbridge police called in a description of the suspects wanted in a slew of car burglaries that night on New Brunswick Avenue and Mystic, Hall and Hornsby streets.
Edison Police Officer Jennifer Aldahondo spotted the suspects running from a burglarized car on Fay Street. Officers Christopher Sorber and Timothy Hudson then spotted the suspects running through the Clara Barton apartments and gave chase, police said.
Only one suspect, a 16-year-old from Fords, was caught and arrested. He was charged with receiving stolen goods and obstruction of justice. He was found with several satellite navigation systems and a cellphone that police believe were stolen.
Edison police said they did not charge the suspect with the Fay Street car burglaries because they did not see him commit the crimes. Woodbridge police will decide whether to charge the suspect with any of the crimes in Woodbridge.
The Fords break-ins occurred during the same overnight period when cars were burglarized in other neighborhoods: Grove Avenue and James and High streets in Woodbridge proper, Division Street in Port Reading and Cliff Road and East Avenue in Sewaren, police said.
