Eric LeGrand, who suffered a paralyzing spinal cord injury while playing for the Rutgers football team last October, was a special guest of the Somerset Patriots on Sunday as part of Colonia/Woodbridge Day at TD Bank Ballpark.

“When you’re going through this kind of situation, it helps to know you’ve touched a lot of people’s hearts,” LeGrand said from inside a suite as he peered down at a crowd highlighted by dozens of Rutgers T-shirts adorned with his No. 52.

“These (Colonia/Woodbridge residents) are the people I’ve known my whole life, and I know you can never forget where you were before Rutgers and everything else.”
