Auto dealers in Central Jersey doing better
After hitting rock bottom in 2009, many Central Jersey auto dealers say they now are sharing in a statewide economic rebound of their industry that began last year, according to a report in NJ Press Media newspapers.
While the nation’s economic woes are far from gone, executives and managers at many area dealerships said that last year’s gains were fueled by improvements in consumer confidence, which had been eroded by frozen credit and a tenuous job market.
“This was the worst recession,” said Richard Lucas, owner of Richard Lucas Chevrolet in Woodbridge. “It was damaging, and it scared a lot of people because they never thought it could get this bad. So everybody pulled back, they tightened the belt, they put everything on hold.”
