When it comes to New Year’s resolutions, losing weight has to be at the top of the list for most of us. With all the calorie-laden holiday celebrating, it’s hard not to put on a “few extra.” The problem comes with post holiday dieting—its success depends largely upon keeping it interesting. Those restricted to a day-in, day-out diet of lettuce and carrots are sure to lose their resolve long before they lose any real weight. But, don’t despair—that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re stuck on the salad merry-go-round. Restaurants like Applebee’s are becoming more conscientious and more creative when it comes to lower-calorie meal choices.

In fact, Applebee’s in Woodbridge is grilling up some sizzling new Under 550 Calorie entrees for guests. Applebee’s has infused its 2012 menu with some new, exciting lower-calorie offerings that won’t break the bank for those on a strict calorie budget.

The new Under 550 Sizzling Asian Shrimp & Broccoli is brought to your table on a sizzling skillet with blackened shrimp piled over rice, broccoli, red peppers, sugar snap peas, water chestnuts, mushrooms, carrots and bok choy. To finish, all is drizzled with a sweet & spicy sauce and topped with cilantro.

Applebee’s is also adding a new Roasted Garlic Sirloin to its Under 550 Calorie offerings this year. It starts with a garlic-marinated 7 oz. sirloin, topped with sautéed onions, that is served alongside herb potatoes and a delightful grilled Portobello mushroom cap filled with hot creamed spinach.

If you enjoy the variety of surf and turf, Applebee’s Under 550 Calorie Signature Sirloin & Garlic Herb Shrimp is another mouthwatering lower calorie option. The 7 oz. sirloin is grilled to your liking and topped with succulent shrimp in a light cream sauce accompanied by herb potatoes, seasonal vegetables, fresh bruschetta, sliced almonds and chopped parsley.

Filling out the new Under 550 Calorie lineup (and not your waistline) is Applebee’s new Sizzling Chili Lime Chicken. When spicy chili sauce meets tender grilled chicken and colorful Asian style vegetables served over rice with fresh cilantro and a squeeze of lime juice, you get a skillet full of flavor.

Clearly, those determined to chop unwanted calories from their diet don’t have to stick with salad as their main course. When it comes to dining out, restaurants like Applebee’s are offering a choice of tasty options that just might help you look forward to keeping this year’s New Year’s resolution.

Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar restaurants, located at the Woodbridge Center Mall in Woodbridge, will open its doors at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 3rd to receive an honored guest, Santa, and is inviting children, friends and families to join the jolly man at a special fundraiser breakfast. A limited number of tickets are available for a $10 donation per person (children under 2 are admitted free) which includes breakfast compliments of Applebee’s, goodies, raffle tickets for door prizes and the opportunity to take a photo with Santa (bring a camera). One-hundred percent of the proceeds will benefit the U.S. Marine Corps “Toys for Tots” Program. Advance reservations are required.

Over the past twelve years, Applebee's Breakfast with Santa events at participating Applebee's restaurants throughout New Jersey and on Long Island have raised a combined total of over $2.4 million for "Toys for Tots" in order to help provide happiness and hope to disadvantaged children during each Christmas holiday season. Dollars raised in each community benefit that local community. This year’s goal is $325,000 and to help reach that goal, Applebee’s is also offering paper “gift packages” with any donation of $1 or more. All proceeds also go directly to “Toys for Tots” and each colorful gift pack will be prominently displayed within the restaurant.

To purchase tickets to Breakfast with Santa while seats are still available, call or stop by Applebee’s in Woodbridge today. Or, to find another participating Applebee’s in New Jersey close to your neighborhood, visit http://www.applebees.com.

In what has become a neighborhood tradition, Applebee’s in New Jersey, including Woodbridge, will once again thank our nation’s veterans and troops by inviting them to their local Applebee’s for a free meal on Veterans Day, Friday, Nov. 11, 2011.

For the third year, Applebee’s will salute our nation’s military, hoping to top the 1,024,000 free meals served last year from coast-to-coast. A year ago, New Jersey Applebee’s served over 17,000 meals to deserving men and women veterans and members of the active duty military on Veterans Day, a day of remembrance and respect.

“We say ‘Thank You’ with a free meal, but this day at Applebee’s is really more about creating connections,” said Mike Archer, president of Applebee’s Services, Inc. “At every Applebee’s on Veterans Day across the nation, military gather to share stories, meet up with old friends and make new ones. It’s our favorite day of the year and we are honored to serve and thank them again this year.”

Thirty-nine participating New Jersey Applebee’s restaurants are offering veterans a special menu including some of its signature and favorite items:

7 oz. House Sirloin

Bacon Cheeseburger

Three Cheese Chicken Penne

Chicken Tenders Platter

Oriental Chicken Salad

Fiesta Lime Chicken®

Double Crunch Shrimp

New Jersey Applebee's restaurants will open at 11:00 a.m. for lunch and serve dinner until closing at midnight or later. The honored guests will need to provide proof of service, which includes: U.S. Uniform Services Identification Card, U.S. Uniform Services Retired Identification Card, Current Leave and Earnings Statement, Veterans Organization Card, photograph in uniform or wearing uniform, DD214, Citation or Commendation.

Offer is valid for Dine-in only. Traditional sides are included with the free entrees. Appetizers, upgraded side items, beverages, desserts and gratuity are not included. For more information, visit http://www.applebees.com.

In the weeks leading up to Veterans Day, Applebee’s is kicking off its Thank You Movement, a campaign aimed at collecting over 3 million personal thank yous written by guests to thank those in our military. Starting November 1st, guests are invited to take a moment to write out a special thank you card at any Applebee’s restaurant. Those cards will be bundled and sent to our troops. You can also visit Applebees.com, ThankYouMovement.com or Applebee’s: Facebook, Twitter or YouTube.com/ ThankYouMovement page to participate.

Before the little princesses and pirates start gobbling up mouthfuls of sweets, Applebee’s invites parents to treat them to a free lunch or dinner at any of its 39 participating restaurants in northern and central New Jersey, including Woodbridge, on Halloween, Monday, October 31st. Up to two trick-or-treaters, age 12 and under, will receive a free Kids' Meal from the Kid's menu with each adult entrée purchased, dine-in only.

“Halloween is a great time for family fun,” says Kevin Coughlin, Director of Operations for New Jersey Applebee’s. “Our servers enjoy it, too―they dress up in costume and love seeing all the little ones file into the restaurant in their Halloween disguises.”

The Applebee’s "Kids’ Menu” features children’s favorites like: Chicken Tenders, Mini Cheeseburgers, Hot Dogs and Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, all served with carrots and ranch dressing as well as a choice of healthy steamed broccoli, celery with ranch dressing, applesauce or French fries.

This special offer is valid in participating Applebee's restaurants in northern and central New Jersey only on Monday, October 31st. To locate your neighborhood Applebee’s visit: http://www.Applebees.com.

In 1759 history was made when Arthur Guinness signed a 9,000-year lease on the famous St. James's Gate brewery in Dublin, Ireland. Thanks to Arthur, people everywhere have been enjoying the world's most famous beer for more than 250 years. To commemorate the life and legacy of master craftsman and brewer, Arthur Guinness, The Shannon Rose Irish Pub in Woodbridge is 'calling all Arthurs' and Guinness fans to join in the global Arthur's Day celebration on Thursday, September 22. Anyone in the community named Arthur or whose first name starts with "Art," with proper identification, will receive a free Shannon Rose Burger, voted "Best Burger" in Clifton where a second Shannon Rose Irish Pub is located.

Other Arthur's Day festivities include $3 Guinness and Guinness mixes, a special Guinness menu featuring Guinness as the main ingredient, live Irish entertainment, Guinness-themed prizes and "The Great Guinness Toast," taking place at exactly 17:59 p.m. GMT (5:59 p.m. EST), the year Arthur Guinness signed the infamous lease.

"We're proud to celebrate Arthur's Day at The Shannon Rose Irish Pub, afterall, last year we sold over 50,000 pints of Guinness. We plan to celebrate with our many Guinness fans and any 'Arthurs' that can join the fun," said Kurt Pahlitzsch, Vice President. "Get ready to raise a pint with fellow Guinness fans around the globe as we simultaneously toast Arthur, the man who created our beloved beer."

The Shannon Rose's Guinness menu includes:

Guinness Beef Stew, tender beef with potatoes, carrots and onions slowly braised in a secret Guinness broth, served with Irish soda bread

Guinness BBQ Baby Back Ribs, a mouth-watering rack of baby back ribs slowly braised in a signature Guinness BBQ sauce

Guinness BBQ Burger, topped with Guinness BBQ sauce and melted Irish Cheddar cheese served on a toasted English Muffin with lettuce, a beefsteak tomato and red onions

The Guinness Float, choice of vanilla or coffee ice cream topped with Guinness with a shot of Bailey's caramel for sweetness

The Shannon Rose Irish Pub is located in St. George’s Crossing at Route 35 and US 1/9 in Woodbridge and in Clifton Commons, Route 3 East, across from Target. For more information, visit http://www.theshannonrose.com.
